A place to play, learn, and grow!

The Growing Tree Playcare & Preschool, a licensed home daycare, was founded in 2013 by Jessica Dixon and Alli Atterbury. Jessi and Alli met as toddlers in a home-based daycare on Mercer Island. They had such a wonderful daycare experience, it was always a dream to open a daycare of their own!

Jessi and Alli opened a second location in 2016. The Treehouse Playcare & Preschool is a private 4 hour preschool for children 2.5 to 5 years old.

Their mission is to provide a unique, enriching, and loving environment for children to thrive in. Both locations are Play and Nature-based while inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf approaches.

Jessica Dixon and Alli Atterbury (Drinkard) met at a home daycare on Mercer Island in the early 90's. They quickly became inseparable best friends and found out they lived on the same street. As toddlers, Jessi and Alli dreamed of becoming "Daycare Ladies" and creating a loving atmosphere similar to the one they knew. Throughout their teen years the two started a babysitting business, and continued on to major in Early Childhood Education at Washington State University. Their story came full circle when they opened The Growing Tree in 2013. "You never work a day in your life when you do what you love" holds true for Jessi and Alli. They opened a second preschool location, The Treehouse, in 2016.

"I have been continually impressed with Growing Tree and the work that Jessi and Alli are doing with these kids. They've found the perfect middle ground ... a fun/relaxed environment with an educational/structured school-like feel." - Growing Tree Parent

Our amazing teachers have both education in Early Childhood Development and diverse backgrounds of experience with children of all ages and abilities. Our most important quality we look for when hiring is a true passion for children. Continuing education is a top priority to us all and our teachers enjoy attending frequent conferences, trainings, and staying up to date with the latest research on Early Childhood Development.

"The teachers build lasting relationships with the kids, where my child isn't just a number but rather feels apart of a community" - Growing Tree Parent

Since we are a small and independently owned daycare and preschool, we have had the freedom to create a progressive program that is constantly evolving. We use a blend of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf approaches in our curriculum and design. We stay current with research on early childhood education and development and update our program accordingly. Many of our favorite articles and studies have come from the Scandinavian countries who tend to be at the top of the charts when it comes to early education and have highly influenced our program.

"All we can say is the caregivers are like family and our son feels like it is his second home.  The play/academic structure has allowed our son to develop and grow in so many areas and we believe it is due to their well implemented play care structure." -Treehouse Parent

At The Treehouse and Growing Tree, we strive to offer an alternative and unique program that differs from many traditional academically focused preschools. We believe in the importance of PLAY! We strive to inspire a sense of wonder and playfulness, and build a foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

"I made an appointment to meet with Jessi and Alli at their other place (The Growing Tree) before The Treehouse was open to get a sense of their style and how they run things. I was immediately impressed- I loved the space, their organization and structure and their general attitude towards childcare and learning." - Treehouse Parent

At both The Growing Tree and Treehouse, we strive to inspire a sense of wonder and playfulness and build a foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Children have a natural curiosity and interest in the world around them, they need a balance that allows them to reach their potential, without pushing them beyond their personal comfort limits. We encourage children to discover the world through their own eyes through playing, creating, and exploring. We have carefully designed our curriculum to include developmentally age appropriate activities that integrate art, STEM, sensory, dramatic play, gross motor development, music, and literacy. The curriculum follows the seasons and the changes that naturally occur in the world around us. We spend lots of time outdoors, set up daily provocations, and have outside specialists that come throughout the month to supplement our program (at no extra cost to parents!).

"Don't be fooled thinking that a play based school won't be informative and educative for your child. On the contrary it is the best form of education your child could receive, as it is set at a pace your child is comfortable at! I am a huge supporter of play based preschool and highly recommend Treehouse to every parent out there.” -Treehouse Parent
